Plaza del Dos de Mayo in Malasaña
Malasaña takes its name from Manuela Malasaña, a 17-year-old seamstress killed in the 2 May 1808 uprising against Napoleon's troops. The Plaza del Dos de Mayo, with the arch of the old Monteleón barracks where it started, is where the neighbourhood drinks on warm nights; the Movida of the 1980s was born in its bars.
